Los Angeles Day Training for your Dog
You could send your dog off to a dog boot camp and -- hopefully -- he'll come back trained. Many places that board and train dogs keep them in crates or kennels for a good portion of the day, only letting them out for potty breaks or for short training periods. Your dog is not with you for several weeks at a time, and you're lonely without him -- after all, you didn't get a dog to send him away! And it's *expensive*.
There is another alternative, and it's called day training. The programs are typically three or four weeks, and your dog stays in your home the whole time so you can actually see the progress he is making! Wow!!!
What is day training?
We come to your home and train your dog several times a week and then give you the skills to maintain the training.
There are four parts:
- the initial consultation
- the actual training lessons where we train your dog
- the session where we transfer the skills to you
- follow-up sessions
How does the day training work?
Generally, there is a two-hour initial consultation where we discuss your goals for your dog. Then we give you an estimate on how long it will take us to accomplish those goals. You may watch us while we train if you wish. We come to your home, typically three times a week, to train your dog and then meet with you for a fourth session each week to
- show you what your dog has learned
- work with you so you can get the desired response from your dog
- discuss what to do if your dog doesn't do it (oops, nobody's perfect!)
- discuss what to do if your dog gives you an unwanted behavior
- discuss how to maintain your dog's new behaviors both inside and outside your home
Then there are one to three follow-up lessons, which we schedule as needed.
Why might day training be the program for you?
Well, you might not want to be a dog trainer! With your busy schedule, you may not have time to train. You might not want to change your routine in order to train your dog. It's easier to learn how to maintain the training than it is to do the training itself. You can watch the training sessions -- or not. You don't even have to be home while we are training your dog!
Is day training good for all dog training or behavior issues?
Day training works well for
- basic obedience
- manners and impulse control
- leash walking, including walking by your side or leash reactivity to dogs and/or people
- some aggressive behaviors
What about the other issues?
There are some issues that you just need to be involved in the training, such as housetraining, stealing, separation anxiety. So we set up a program for you and help you and your dog work through it.
