What to Expect When You Call and during Our Lessons
FREE Dog Training
Our goal in our Los Angeles dog training and Los Angeles puppy training classes and private lessons is to improve the relationship between you and your dog or puppy.
Dog training is more than just telling your dog to stop doing what he's doing. It is also more than simply following commands.
Dog obedience training is communication -- you are showing your dog how you want him to act in a way he understands.
Dog training is trust -- you are teaching him that he can feel safe and know that you will take care of him.
Training your dog is freedom -- you'll be able to take your dog to more places with you knowing that he will behave.
Training is bonding -- you and your dog work together so you can enjoy each other's company. We emphasize this in both our group obedience classes and private in-home training.
We deliver results through hands-on personalized service. We work with your dog and then show you how to get the desired response from your dog. Your dog learns from your practicing with him on a daily basis. Many clients see dramatic improvements in their dog's behavior during the first lesson -- many times during the first five minutes -- honest! Please take a look at the Testimonials to read what they say. The short time we spend in training can last for your dog's entire life.
With the Private Lessons, Los Angeles Dog Training classes, Los Angeles Puppy Training classes, Los Angeles Dog Agility and Tricks Fun classes, and with all the other services offered, you receive detailed written handouts (so you can review them between lessons) and articles on various aspects of dog behavior and training. You also receive samples of many dog-related products such as food, treats, shampoo, etc. The homework is easy, fast, and fun for both you and your dog. Your whole family is encouraged to participate.

PRIVATE LESSONS
We offer several private training programs.
We work on what we mutually agree will be the best lesson for your dog or puppy.
Click on a purple link to learn what program is best for you and your puppy or dog,
and then call us at
1-877-7-DOGGIE,
Private lessons are the most comprehensive way for you and your dog or puppy to learn since it is a customized program dealing with your choice of topics and issues – with a input from us regarding things we know (but you may not yet appreciate) are important. There are several programs for private lessons, all described below in greater detail.
Our most popular program is six hours of training in five lessons. The first lesson is two hours and the remaining four lessons are an hour each. The fee is $595 for private lessons in West Los Angeles and surrounding areas; however, fees vary depending on distance and travel time, and we'll give you an exact fee during our telephone conversation. Our service area for private dog and puppy training lessons extends from San Fernando Valley to South Bay , Beverly Hills, Culver City, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, and West Los Angeles are the areas we service most frequently, but we do travel throughout the Greater Los Angeles area. Click on your area above (or other areas immediately under the navigation buttons on the left of this page) to see what the fees are for private lessons or the combination programs.
What are some advantages to private lessons?
-
You and your dog are comfortable learning in your home.
-
We assess what your current situation is, find out what you want to do, formulate a plan to help you reach your goal, and then work with you to get you there.
-
You have our undivided attention for the entire lesson, which means that both you and your dog should progress fairly quickly.
- Lessons are scheduled to our mutual convenience, usually one to two weeks apart.
-
We work on basic obedience training as well as solving some behavior problems. You receive detailed instructions both orally and in writing as well as strategies to solve specific behavior problems.
-
When you take the private lessons, you may attend either the Los Angeles Dog Obedience/Manners Training classes or the Los Angeles Puppy Training classes at no charge.
- You also receive telephone consultations between lessons as needed.
Basic Dog Obedience/Manners Training
Our Basic Obedience and Manners Program includes these behaviors or commands, and we will gladly customize a program to meet your needs.
Puppy Manners Program
Your puppy is learning even if you are not "formally" teaching him. One of you is training the other every time you interact -- honest! -- even though you are not aware that's what's happening. You'll both be a lot happier if you're the trainer and your dog is the student!
Our methods of training do not involve force, and both you and your puppy enjoy the training time together. Your puppy can begin training at home at eight weeks old, but we suggest you wait until ten weeks to enroll him in a class.
We keep the training sessions short -- because of your puppy's attention span -- and we answer your questions regarding breed characteristics, nutrition, toilet training, puppy development and learning periods, etc. You are laying the foundation for your puppy's future behavior through a positive, creative, and structured approach to his training. By using our puppy training program, you can prevent problems from happening!
We'll show your puppy how to
- Accept handling by you and others
- Accept being left alone
- Be comfortable in a crate
- Be socialized to people, dogs, places, and events
- Mind you
- Play properly (This is an area of puppy training that is often overlooked.)
- Potty in an area you choose
And we'll show you how to help prevent and help solve problems such as
- Aggression
- Barking
- Chewing
- Digging
- Fearfulness
- Guarding toys and objects
- Jumping up
- House soiling
- Nipping
- Separation anxiety
- ... and much more!
Please refer to Puppy Manners and New Puppy Training for more information on puppies, socialization, and training tips.
We also offer Los Angeles Puppy Training Classes. This is a unique class specifically geared to puppy issues, and there is no class like this in the Los Angeles area. You have the option of taking this along with the private training. Click on the above link for more information and a detailed description of what you and your puppy will learn.
We have a large training area for the classes, and there is ample free parking.
Problem Solving
Most dog behavior problems occur in the home, and many can easily be solved when you understand how and why your dog acts the way he does. We assess the cause of the problem and give you practical, clear-cut solutions which bring about positive change.
Unfortunately, there is no "one size fits all" in behavior modification and problem solving. So we work with each dog and owner individually and personalize a program to accomplish your goals, and we work with you every step of the way.
Most Problem Solving begins with the Basic Obedience Program which is a foundation program. Some problems disappear with Basic Obedience, and no further lessons are necessary -- other solutions are easier than you think! However, for those that need further training and guidance, there is an additional fee.
Some common dog behavior issues we work with are:
- Aggression
- Adjusting to children and babies
- Barking
- Begging
- Bolting out of doors and gates
- Car sickness and car behavior
- Chasing animals, bikes, or people
- Chewing
- Digging
- Fearfulness and shyness
- Fence jumping
- Fighting
- Garbage raiding
- Guarding toys or food
- Growling
-
- Hyperactivity
- Jumping on people, furniture, etc.
- Marking territory with urine
- Pulling on a leash
- Running away
-
- Stealing
- Stool eating
- Unruliness
- ... and whatever else you want to work on
Please refer to Problem Solving Strategies and the Articles pages for more information.
Consultations
- Choosing a Dog or Puppy
- Multiple dogs (sibling jealousy or rivalry)
- Pet Loss
- Preparing your dog for a new baby
-
- Renting and moving with a dog
- ... and other suitable topics of your choice
We discuss what you want before our meeting. Then we meet and create a plan that is tailored to your lifestyle and your dog. Fees are determined by the time and distance involved but begin at $295 in West Los Angeles and selected surrounding areas and are generally two hours.

One Hour -- One Issue
In our phone conversation, we zero in on one issue and then make a one-hour appointment to deal with that one issue. Because of the brevity of the meeting, we will talk about the major points, and then you receive a written handout of the steps you need. Some issues such as separation anxiety, fear, and aggression are not appropriate for this program. But there are many that are, including:
The fee for this is $175-195 for the hour depending on travel time. Any further time after 60 minutes will be prorated.

OTHER SERVICES
Day Training or Private Training for your Dog
What is Day Training? It's an alternative to Board & Train. With Day Training, we come to your house to train your dog for a minimum of three times/week. Then we work with you so you can follow through with the exercises to show you how we trained your dog so that you can achieve the same results.
This is the program for you if you would like a well-trained dog but don't have the time or the patience to do the training yourself. We come to your home and train your dog for you. Please call for more information 1-877-7-DOGGIE.
Board and Train
In our Board and Train program (for dogs or puppies under 30 pounds only), your dog stays with us in our home where he is taught housetraining, basic obedience, and manners. We work with only one board and train puppy or dog at a time. Then we meet with you after the training program to demonstrate the techniques and show you how to continue with your dog’s training. More information.
Boarding
We are now doing boarding for dogs 30 pounds or less, and we are very particular on who we board, and there are restrictions. We board only one dog at a time. More information.
Speaking Engagements
We are also available for speaking engagements on a whole host of dog and puppy training and behavior topics. We can tailor a presentation to your particular needs. Please call for more details 1-877-7-DOGGIE.
FREE DOG TRAINING
I'd like to give something back to my loyal clients, so I'm beginning a Rewards Program for Free Dog Training. Everyone who takes one of my dog or puppy group training classes or any private lesson is automatically enrolled!
Here's how it works -- after you've taken your first class or lesson,
-
For every client you refer to me who takes a group class or a one-hour private lesson, you get 1 point.
-
For each client you refer who takes either one two-hour private lesson OR the combination of one private lesson and the group puppy or obedience/manners classes, you get 2 points.
-
For a client you refer who takes the 6-hour private lesson program, you get 3 points.
-
If YOU take a second class or private session, that also counts!
-
Here's the best part -- it's RETROACTIVE for you or for anyone you've already referred.
When you have accumulated 10 points, YOU get either a group class that I teach OR one private in-home lesson!!!
Here are some specific examples --
- You've taken the puppy class and then take the obedience/manners class (whether it's with the same dog or a different dog), you get 1 point for the obedience/manners class.
- Another example, if you've taken private lessons and then a second set of private lessons, you get 3 points.
- If you've taken an agility class and then refer someone who takes the private lesson/group combination, then you get 2 points.
There are some other minor restrictions, but that's the gist of it.
If you have previously referred someone or have taken more than one program of training, then simply let me know the name of the person you referred and/or the second kind of training you have taken. It's that easy!
Refer someone NOW and get started earning YOUR rewards today!
